Edward Dowd, Democratic Candidate for Governor of Missouri, 1972.
Edward Dowd came to my college in 1972 during his campaign for governor. All the school's media was there. I photographed him for the yearbook.
Dowd was a 54 year old St. Louis lawyer and former FBI agent. He lost the election to Kit Bond, becoming the first Missouri Democrat to lose the Govenorship in 32 years.
(thanks to the internet for this info. How'd we ever get by without it?)
He really looks like a politician.
Put his poster enlarged on the wall behind him and you'll have Citizen Kane.

Alas - a snot-nosed, very young Kit Bond won the Missouri votes...
I had met Dowd earlier (like about 1970 or so...) when I was a Delegate to the National College Young Democrats meeting at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis. I had been invited to the Dowd home for a cocktail party. I recall Dowd had an interest in the Intercollegiate Student Legislature, where I was the 7th Dist Chairman; He teased me about getting elected in the GOP-strong-hold of SW Mo.! Fun-loving Dorothy Bush (Sect. of the Nat. Demo Party) was there at the party along with former-US Sen Albert Gore, Sr. / father of the future Vice-President. He had just LOST re-election to Brach (the Candy Man) and was terribly depressed. I had picked Gore up at Lambert Field and motored over to the neighborhood for the gathering. The former-Senator was snockered at the airport and got progressively more blotto as the time passed. (He seemed to have a fondness for ordering more and more 'Black Russians!')
Alllllllllllllllll these long ago memories from just a couple of old snapshots. Inspiring! Thanks for taking the time to post them. Its a shame DOWD was not elected!
