Photographs are my memory.

My name is Owen Long. The photographs I've taken over the last 50 years are like external memory storage for the places I've been, the things I've seen and the people I've known. They capture many of the events and sights of my past I had forgotten.

As the scanner excavates my history, I am documenting the process and displaying the newly discovered gems in the Film to Digital Project blog. I've also started posting my newer digital photos as well.

What's Up in the Bathroom? > Pat and Carolynn

I find this photo very relaxing.

It's from a nice trip to upstate New York a few years ago, so I have personal reasons to like the image, but I think the image goes beyond being a snapshot. I like that, by coincidence, Pat and Carolynn wore black and red, but in a reversed checker board pattern. (If they stood next to each other, they'd look like 4 black and red squares from a checker board.)

This photo works better large. Click on the image above to see it at 900 pixels wide. I like the sense of distance, and yet there's also a comfortable intimacy.
